The religious community of Nassau County joins the business, government, labor, youth and educational communities in celebrating the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each year commemorative services are held in a church or synagogue, and Imams, Preachers, Priests and Rabbis; cantors, choirs, chorales and choruses take part in an interfaith observance on the eve of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

A bronze, sculptured bust of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr is presented to each of the Recognition Award winners at the luncheon. The Youth Scholarship winners are also acknowledged at this time. A diverse gathering of representatives of government, business, community-based organizations and Nassau County residents demonstrate their appreciation for the achievements of the awardees and scholarship recipients, by their presence and support. A souvenir journal is distributed to all attendees, to commemorate the event.
